Women Economic Empowerment Webinar
A Call for Action in Response to the effects of COVID-19 in Sub-Saharan Africa
The COVID-19 pandemic is putting an unprecedented and significant strain on the global economy and public health systems. It is affecting women in many ways, from concerns for their health and safety and income security, to additional caring responsibilities and increased exposure to domestic violence.
In sub-Saharan Africa, the pandemic has resulted in severe economic and social impacts. Women and particularly young girls are vulnerable to the insecurities the pandemic has caused, and many are now at the risk of being left behind in education, economic opportunities, and health and wellbeing at this crucial stage of their life development. There is the growing concern that the effects of the pandemic could roll back the limited progress made in gender equality and women empowerment
This webinar will provide an opportunity to discuss the connections between the present pandemic and its looming effect, and how women economic empowerment should be addressed to reduce the COVID-19 shock of the already existing gender inequalities.
