Kuapa Kokoo Sustainable Development Programme (KKSDP)
MPA-Ghana is collaborating with the Kuapa Kokoo Farmers Union (KKFU) to rollout cutting-edge interventions to improve agricultural production in six of Ghana’s seven cocoa growing regions. Specific interventions under this partnership include TeleAgric Consultation Centre (TACC), Agric Strengthening Systems (through input supply and training in good agricultural practices), Land Reclamation (from illegal mining) and Alternative Livelihood Support for female farmers.
The Tele-Agric Consultation Project
MPA in collaboration with Kuapa Kokoo developed a TeleAgric Center to bridge information flow from research and academia to farmers. This is to improve agricultural extension services to a large number of farmers in rural communities. In 2018, MPA developed an electronic application to register over 100,000 farmers unto the teleagric system and to map out the farm lands they operate on. MPA /Kuapa Kokoo signed an MOU with Airtel/Tigo and subsequently, dedicated SIM cards have been generated for the farmers to call the center at no cost at the point of call.
The Tele-Agric Consultation Centre (TACC), the first of its kind in Ghana, leverages on the SDGs to provide technology-driven, climate-smart agricultural platform for knowledge sharing between actors in the cocoa value chain using smartphones. The concept seeks to bridge the information gap between cocoa farmers, academia, researchers, agricultural inputs dealers and technical experts by providing
